I wasn’t happy with the way that the flavour of the beef taco filling tasted when using the packet mixes. I gave up using the taco mix and used the chili seasoning packets instead, and added a little . Now the family prefers homemade tacos to the chains’ versions!

Beef Taco Meat Filling

Tacos

Whether you prefer hard shells or soft shell tacos, the beef filling makes all the difference. This is a quick and easy way to get tasty homemade tacos.

Prep Time 2 minutes
Cook Time 30 minutes
Total Time 32 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (455 grams) beef mince
  • 1/2 taco or chili seasoning packet (Old El Paso or Discovery)
  • 2 Tbs tomato paste (aka , 100g is normally a tube)

Instructions

  1. Ignore the instructions on the seasoning mix packet.
  2. Brown the beef , add chopped onion if desired. This is a great time to shred cheese or chop any other veggies you'll need.
  3. When mince is browned, stir in approximately half of the seasoning packet and the tomato puree. Add more if desired.
  4. If mixture seems dry, add a little water, we like ours a little juicy.
  5. Spoon into shells and add your favourite toppings, such as shredded cheddar, salsa, chopped onion, lettuce, tomatoes, or sour cream.

Notes

Make it extra special and nest a hard shell inside a soft shell with re-fried beans in between.
