Snickerdoodles have to be one of the most popular cookies in America. (Chocolate chip cookies must be at the top of the list.) Introduce all your British friends and families to these tried and true classic cookies.

Lovely, crunchy, cinnamon cookies.

Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1⁄2 cup butter (or margarine, softened)
  • 1⁄2 cup shortening (veg.fat)
  • 1⁄2 cup sugar (plus 2 Tbsp for rolling)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1⁄2 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200C/400F.
  2. Mix thoroughly butter, shortening, 1 1/2 cups sugar and the eggs.
  3. Blend in flour, cream of tartar, and salt.
  4. Shape into balls bigger than a quarter, but smaller than a 50p.
  5. Mix 2 tablespoons of cinnamon and 2 tablespoons of sugar together in a small bowl.
  6. Roll balled cookies in the cinnamon/sugar mixture and place 2 apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  7. Bake 8-10 minutes or until set.
  8. Remove immediately to wire rack or grease proof paper to cool. Makes nearly 6 dozen.

Notes

This is an American recipe, but I have used British cups and it has turned out fine.
